Believe it or not, fall fashion is something I'm still trying to figure out - and don't get me started on winter apparel! Growing up in Puerto Rico, I never experienced seasonal changes; I spent 23 years of my life in a perpetual state of summer, where denim shorts, sandals, and a breezy tank was my uniform year round. I remember browsing through fashion magazines and looking at models and celebrities, all wrapped up in chunky knitted sweaters and extravagant coats. I always thought, "It must be freezing wherever they are!" And here I am, layering up in NYC as I dress for 45°F/7°C weather.
I'm not going to lie, the entire concept of layering fascinates me. Now, as the weather takes a deeper dive into fall, we're still experiencing brisk days in which the cold isn't as brutal. For these days I like to go a bit light on the layering. Chunky knit sweaters are my favorites and I will continue to talk about them throughout the season, but when you find yourself running around from your apartment to the subway, to work, to whatever events you may have during the day, and back, you may want to go for a breezier short to medium-sleeved sweater, weather permitting of course.
As an example, I wore this light fall ensemble to brunch the other day and it worked perfectly! I've had this medium-sleeved chunky knit from Free People since ages ago, I wore a nude cami underneath and finished it off with a gold statement necklace. As for the metallic skirt, I felt it gave a fun spin to my look and ever since Fashion Week I've noticed a huge comeback for everything metallic. Big win for pairing up textures and breaking the norm for a bit!
So if you dig this getup, below I've listed a breakdown of the outfit deets and have added a clickable gallery with similar items you can also check, shop, and build your own chunky knit and metallic ensemble!
