Happy Friday guys! Hope you're as excited for the weekend as I am! So, how many of you will be utilizing this precious "free" time to do something productive (besides a well-deserved brunch and a few mimosas)? In all seriousness, how many of you will be using part of your weekend to craft and work on something pertinent or relevant to achieving your ultimate dream? I know I will be!
You see, when you have a 9-to-5 (sometimes 9-to-7 or 9-to-9) job like me, and on the side you're doing your absolute best to accomplish your goals and long-term objectives, life can get a bit hectic. So I've already talked about facing your fears and stepping out of your comfort zone to get you closer to where you want to be. But what do you do when your confidence is in check, you've let go of anything that no longer serves you, and you are actively trying your best to balance your day job with your side-hustle and potential business?
Well, joining me today is Confidence & Success Coach Brandy Middleton, giving us some fantastic tips on how to balance your 9-to-5 with your side hustle, and killing it while you're at it! Have a lovely weekend and don't forget, work hard and make it happen!
I have been balancing a side hustle as a Business Coach AND being a full-time accountant at an entertainment firm for most of the past year. So, I totally understand the grind it takes to have a full-time job (a 9-to-8 corporate job for me) and to live out your passions on the side. I know what it is like to come home and not feel like working on your business because you just spent 10 hours using every ounce of your brain capacity to solve problems at work. I know what it is like to resent the work that you are doing cause you feel like it is taking away from what truly lights you up. I get it!
In this year, I went from floundering around in my business to getting my first paying clients and feeling completely confident in the work that I am doing in this world. And, this year I am partnering with several other women in business, traveling the world to luxurious locations (Florence, Paris, Cabo, and Miami) and have my QUIT date set.
How did I do this while still having a 9-to-5? I deep dived into what I TRULY desired in my life, AND I focused on simplifying my processes and systems to allow for a balanced life.
So, here are my three simple steps for balancing your side hustle with your 9-to-5:
- Calendar Your Time and Honor Your Calendar
I resisted my calendar for so long because I felt like it was holding me back. When I listened to my coach and trusted the process, I found that it was so incredibly freeing. When I started to calendar my time, I was able to see the time that was available to me. I was then able to allot tasks to my available time.
Now, you may not always be able to be on point with your calendar as it is set, but just track what changes occurred to your calendar and with time you will get an idea of how long things will take you to get done. Know that this is a process, and you don't have to be perfect. If you make this a priority, with time you will nail it.
- Focus on Doing Only One Task Per Day in Your Side Hustle
This one was a life saver for me. I realized that I was trying to do EVERYTHING right now! So, I was attempting to shove so many tasks into one day. All this was creating more stress and pressure on myself, which then lead to some mental anguish wherein I would tell myself how much I failed. I am sure you can relate.
We are our worst critics so remember to be kind to yourself and to set yourself up to WIN.
- Be Kind To Yourself, Mentally and Physically
Focus on what you want, NOT what you don't want. When you catch that negative self-talk creeping in, stop it in its tracks! Find something else to complement yourself on, smile and maybe do some dancing, or get a change of environment.
For those new to the world of managing our negative mental thoughts or mindset work, it is just our "Ego" looking to keep us safe. Just because it is thought, does not make it accurate. In fact, we often fear what has not even happened yet. So BE KIND to yourself, mentally.
Next, take some time for yourself. If you are not taken care of, it will be tough to give what little you have to others. Go out and get a green juice, take a bubble bath, or take a yoga or fitness class. Take care of You, and the rest will follow.
I would love to hear from you! What are some of the ways that you balance your 9-to-5 with your side hustle?
